Paul van der Merwe will share his practical experience of applying TOGAF at some of the country’s largest banks, and will provide insight into what the future holds for the TOGAF standard:

⦁ Today – in the agile world in banking at FirstRand and Standard Bank
⦁ Tomorrow – how he anticipates TOGAF’s relevance in the future, platform-based world
Paul is a dynamic and insightful enterprise architect. A conceptual thinker, he has driven a
number of advances in the fields in which he specialises, among them enterprise architecture (EA), data management, software development, risk management and IT governance.
Real IRM’s EA approach, enhanced and implemented under Paul’s guidance, is now included in TOGAF 9 as a best practice. He also led the development of the enterprise-wide transformation roadmap for Nedbank that was awarded the iCMG’s 2015 Global Enterprise and IT Architecture Excellence award for Transformation and Planning.
Paul is passionate about EA and promotes it as a discipline and profession on an ongoing
basis. He was the Chair of the Architecture Forum of The Open Group in 2009, the body that
develops and owns TOGAF. He was one of the contributing authors to TOGAF 9 and continually encourages collaborative participation in the development and adoption of EA as a business discipline.
Paul is currently leading the EA practice at Standard Bank Group evolving a platform architecture that is aligned to the Group’s vision of transforming into a platform-based business that goes beyond financial services.
